Unparalleled Gospel Opportunity in Queens
The Queens Borough offers an unprecedented opportunity for gospel outreach and ministry. The following demographics of our community will demonstrate why this is the case.
Population and Diversity
Queens has the largest land area of the five New York City boroughs and is situated east of Brooklyn and west of Long Island. With approximately 2.3 million residents, Queens is the second-most populous borough in NYC (behind Brooklyn, but ahead of Manhattan, Bronx and Staten Island respectively). If each borough were a city of its own, Queens would be the fourth most populous city in the United States, following Los Angeles, Chicago, and Brooklyn.
Queens is the most ethnically diverse metro area in the world.
Queens is the most ethnically diverse metro area in the world (rivaling San Jose, CA), because residents frequently identify with their ethnic community more than with the city or borough. As such, the Borough is a collection of many culturally distinct urban neighborhoods. Remarkably, no racial or ethnic group holds a 50% majority in the Borough and nearly half of Queens residents are foreign-born, originating from nations around the world, whether from Africa, Asia, the Middle East, Europe, or Latin America.
Economy and Attractions
The Queens economy is second-largest among the boroughs, featuring a wide diversity of jobs in many sectors, including: manufacturing, construction, transportation, retail, and television production. Small businesses support this thriving economy, with two-thirds of all businesses employing four people or less.In addition to this, many Queens residents live in the Borough but commute to Manhattan and elsewhere for work, relying heavily on an extensive network of mass transit services, including: subway lines, busses, trains, ferries, and even the Roosevelt Island Tram. Taxi, Uber, and Lyft options supplement these services throughout the Borough. Two major NYC airports serve the entire five-borough metro area from Queens – LaGuardia (LGA) on the northern edge and John F. Kennedy (JFK) on the southern edge - making our Borough a hub for domestic and international travel.

Major attractions include Flushing Meadows Park, the New York Hall of Science, the Queens Zoo, Citi Field (home to the Mets baseball team), the Arthur Ashe Stadium complex (home to the annual US Open tennis tournament), and Carnesecca Arena (home to the St. John’s Red Storm). An endless array of classic diners and ethnic restaurants throughout the Borough serve authentic cultural foods from around the world. Among these, the Lemon Ice King of Corona is an iconic seller of flavored Italian ice, having served the community for more than sixty years.
Religion and Faith
As you might expect, Queens features an unparalleled, diverse religious landscape. On one hand, the Borough is home to many world religions. Hispanic Catholic (17%), Black Protestant (15%), and White Catholic (9%) represent a sizable percentage of the population, while Hispanic Protestant (5%), Muslim (5%), Jewish (4%), and Hindu (3%) represent other significant followings. All of these percentages exceed the national average (with the exception of White Catholic) and an additional 18% represent a wide variety of other cults and religions, such as: Jehovah’s Witness, Mormonism, Greek Orthodoxy, Buddhism, and more.

On the other hand, 24% of residents claim to be unaffiliated with any religion at all. As with previous statistics, this percentage is higher than the national average.
