A Wise Investment (Poem)

Cleaning out my desk today, I found this poem I wrote more than twenty years ago during my high-school years:

Every day of our lives is a gift from above,

every breath that we breathe is from God.

Days are passed, time is short, and tomorrow is near;

time is best when it's used for the Lord.

Give your life to the Lord in the days of your youth;

build your talents with service in mind.

Youthful lusts are a snare that discourage God's will;

wise decisions are based on his Word.

All is vanity here in this world that we live,

but our citizenship is in heavn'.

Lay up treasure above for eternity waits;

earthly pleasures will vanish away.

The past is a mem'ry, the future a dream,

and the present is all that we have.

So invest in the future, improve on the past;

countless heavenly joys you will know.
